I discovered Voice-over when a customer asked me for the first time, to translate a document and then to also provide him with a recording of this read-aloud translation.
One must be initiated to vocal techniques and know how to identify one’s own voice to provide appropriate and professional recordings.
I am currently completing training on voice-over techniques, and I will soon add some more examples to my portfolio
Voice-over is a narrative process used in films, which is to involve, in the course of the conduct of a plan, a sequence of a film or a scene, the voice of a character that is not seen in this plan, this sequence or this scene. This character can either be one of those already seen in the story by spectators, or a faceless narrator, which guides them during the key moments of the film. The voice-over is always an active part of the action, of which it is driving, explanatory or corrective force. In documentaries, the narrator’s voice is called a comment.
The expression « voice-over » combines three distinct professional practices.
The speaker, who uses his natural voice to read a printed text, generally institutional texts. He is characterized by a gift and a voice signature.
The voice-over actor, who is a multiple voices imitator. He can dub cartoons, make a child’s voice, create accents or work on conventional advertising. Unlike the speaker, the voice-over actor can also play more smoothly with complex intentions.
The dubbing technique requires, for its part, a confirmed talent as an actor and a good command of post-synchronization.
The chameleon, finally, masters all voice-over specialities, and he can instantly switch from one vocal style to another.
